Our RCD services

Are safety switches required in WA?

Yes. WA regulations require RCDs on power and lighting circuits, and at least two safety switches are required when selling or renting a property - see the WA Government RCD safety switch guide. If your switchboard still uses old fuses, a switchboard upgrade is the ideal way to add full protection.

How to test your safety switch

Press the ‘T’ or ‘Test’ button on each RCD every few months - the power should cut out instantly. If it doesn’t, call us straight away.

Areas we cover

RCD installation across Joondalup, Wanneroo, Iluka and Perth’s northern suburbs.

Frequently asked questions

What does an RCD safety switch actually do?
An RCD (residual current device) cuts the power in a fraction of a second when it detects current leaking to earth — the kind of fault that causes electric shock. Circuit breakers protect the wiring; RCDs protect people.
How many RCDs does a WA home need?
WA regulations require at least two RCDs protecting all power point and lighting circuits before a home can be sold or rented. We test existing RCDs, and supply and install any that are missing, with certification provided.
Why does my RCD keep tripping?
The usual causes are a faulty appliance, moisture in a circuit, or an ageing RCD itself. We fault-find the circuit to identify the real cause and fix it properly rather than just resetting the switch.
How often should RCDs be tested?
Press the test button on your switchboard every three months — power should cut instantly. A licensed electrician should also check trip times periodically; we include RCD testing in our electrical safety inspections.
